Sacramento is a platform for economic opportunity
and social progress
The Mayor's Office for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (MOFIE) is the City’s conduit to the entrepreneurial community in Sacramento, providing leadership and organization for the regional innovation community. Further, MOFIE is the City’s autonomous R&D unit, sourcing innovative ideas, technologies, products and talent for internal departments.
We're transforming Sacramento into a living laboratory to develop, test, deploy, replicate, and scale new technologies, products, and services that will accelerate quality of life improvements for all residents.

RAILS
The Rapid Acceleration, Innovation, and Leadership in Sacramento (RAILS) Grant Program offers up to $1 million annually to support incubators, accelerators, co-working spaces, community organizations, and training programs.
Creative Economy Pilot Project
In January 2017, City Council approved the Creative Economy Pilot Project to support place-based approaches for developing small scale economic hubs through arts and culture. The City is offering up to $500,000 in grants and microgrants.
Autonomous Vehicles
Mayor Darrell Steinberg joined civic and business leaders to create the Autonomous Transportation Open Standards Lab (ATOS). ATOS is a public-private consortium of government agencies and connected and autonomous vehicle technology companies working in partnership to enable Sacramento to become a leading proving ground for the safe testing and demonstration of driverless cars.
Demonstration Partnerships
Demonstration Partnerships allow the City to test, evaluate, and/or demonstrate innovative solutions to improve quality of life. Emerging technologies and public-private partnerships can help provide services more efficiently, meet community needs, and reduce resource consumption. The City is interested in improving service delivery and catalyzing a vibrant entrepreneurial sphere for broad social, economic, and environmental benefit.
